Remote.com wanted to migrate their website from Contentful to HubSpot. Sounds simple enough. Until you consider that it needed to be done in 23 different languages that no CMS can programmatically translate. Alright, that's unique, but not impossible. Now add the fact that their CMO wanted it done in 2 months. It's an impossible task, right?
That's what almost everyone said. Almost.
We said "bet".
OK. We said a lot more than that. But we took on the challenge and helped the Remote team, which consisted of 20+ stakeholders across multiple departments, to deliver a migration of this magnitude in 3 months.
So a month late, sure. Everyone would've still said this was impossible to do in 3 months, but we did it.
Here's how:
The Solution: Who Not How
NGL, the first thing we did was explore options that might automate large swaths of otherwise tedious, manual work. But the reality is no automation tools in existence can handle the complexity and page volume of this migration because of the level of localization and optimization required. You can look for yourself, but trust us, we spent hours & hours looking.
So we shifted our strategy to "who", not "how". We asked ourselves "who can help us rise to the challenge instead of "how the heck are we could to handle all of this ourselves?"
After some more searching, landed on a mix of external partners, like No Bad Days Digital to lead the SEO strategy and Computan as our go-to partner for front and back end development resources. We also shifted some internal team members to manage the project and resources to ensure a frictionless experience for the client.
"They didn’t just migrate our website, they successfully scoped and executed a migration across 23 languages, covering not only our main site but also our blog, press release environment, and other content hubs. Everything was handled in clearly defined phases, with a level of organization and foresight that gave us complete confidence at every step."
The Results: An Ongoing Relationship
The one-two punch of planning and technical execution allowed us to achieve the the impossible: a manual migration of a 30,000 page website in a 3 months. Post-migration, we've monitored and supported the Remote.com team in both a strategic and technical capacity to ensure a cohesive experience for website visitors and improve upon key traffic metrics.
The Remote.com team is now positioned for even greater SEO growth. The new unified HubSpot environment is scalable across the board. We're talking about marketing pages, blog posts, product docs, and more.
This started off as a complex and multilingual migration. This ended with a faster, cleaner, and more resilient digital foundation. One that supports Remote.com’s continued expansion and visibility around the world.
